Some Super I/O chips contain embedded sensors. We have to write to

Some systems (mainly servers) implement IPMI, a set of common interfaces
through which system health data may be retrieved, amongst other things.
We first try to get the information from SMBIOS. If we don't find it
there, we have to read from arbitrary I/O ports to probe for such

Either your system has no sensors, or they are not supported, or
they are connected to an I2C or SMBus adapter that is not
supported. If you find out what chips are on your board, check

Sur Ubuntu 10.10 desktop sur lequel j'ai testé cela aujourd'hui, lm-sensor et fancontrol sont déjà installé.
Il a donc juste fallu que je détecte les sensors avec sensors-detect et que je configure avec pwmconfig.

Sur un Ubuntu 10.10 server il faut installer lm-sensors avec
sudo apt-get install lm-sensors

Ensuite on détecte les sensors avec
sudo sensors-detect
On reponds oui a toutes les questions.

On reboot pour que les modules soit chargés.
On peut tester avec
sudo sensors
qui doit afficher les temperatures et les vitesses des ventilateurs.

On configure la gestion des ventilateurs avec
sudo pwmconfig

Et on reboot encore une fois, et cette fois ci la vitesse des ventilateurs sont gérées.

Pour les réglages de pwmconfig, j'ai configurer :
Tmin 45°c
Tmax 58°c (voir les t pour cpu : http://mysite.verizon.net/pchardwarelinks/elec.htm#intel)
délai 2 sec

J'ai testé avec cpuburn (burnP6) avec cette config le CPU ne monte pas au dessus de 55°c avec une charge a 100%
